For BMA UK Council

General practice is at a turning point. The opportunity to renegotiate a new, substantive GP contract for the first time in over 20 years could bring huge changes for the better.
We need the right people in the right places to fight for that change.
GPs should be a valued, thriving part of the primary care workforce.
Instead we face underemployment. Newly qualified GPs delaying the end to their training to avoid the desertification of the GP job market. Shrinking salaries for work that is hard to find.
As a political commentator on the NHS I have never been afraid to speak truth to power: you can read about my opposition to the new tidal wave of online consultations here and the loss of GP autonomy with the advent of mandatory advice & guidance before referral here.
As a GPCE and GPCUK representative for Doctors in Unite, I understand what BMA committees can achieve when we have a constructive goal in mind.
At this crucial time, I am seeking election to the BMA UK Council to do exactly this – help deliver a new substantive GP contract that puts GPs front and centre.
If you offer me your support I will work tirelessly to deliver a new deal for all GPs that recognises the irreplaceable contribution we make to the NHS.
You can read about my other work for Doctors in Unite, and a selection of my previous journalism, here.
Voting takes place by a postal vote of BMA members.
Voting papers need to be received by the Independent Scrutineer, Civica Election Services (CES), The Election Centre, 33 Clarendon Road, London N8 0NW no later than 5pm on Monday 27 April 2026.
